Join a “thoughtful discussion on solidarity” Sept. 12 at the East Side Freedom Library in St. Paul. The forum, timed to coincide loosely with Labor Day, is free and open to the public from 7 to 9 p.m. at 1105 Greenbrier St.
Library co-director Peter Rachleff will offer a brief history of the concept of solidarity, and a round table of local artists and organizers from racial, labor and gender justice movements will weigh in on solidarity today. Afterward, they will open the floor to engage everyone present.
Potential topics include the role of solidarity in organizing, mobilizing and empowering people; how solidarity differs from being an ally and from collective bargaining; and what solidarity has to offer those working for justice and equity.
“Solidarity has transformed the world over and over again,” Rachleff said. “Let’s see what we can learn from it, and from each other.”
